I have been in the Hotel industry for a little over 10 years, starting in Operations and then moving into Sales. I am currently managing the Brand Quality program for an economy lodging company in Dallas. I work with properties to help elevate the quality of the Brand by analyzing guest feedback and review property audits. I can honestly say I did not see myself ending up in this role but I absolutely love what I do. Building relationships is key in this role, and I get to learn about areas of the business that I may never have come across.
I credit my EPPS education for allowing me to better understand the behaviors and social interactions of different groups and organizations as well honing my skills around analysis and understanding data. I feel that I am better equipped to handle situations in the workplace, deal with the “politics” that exist, and strengthen the relationships I build with the different areas of the business.
To this day, I am still in contact with some of my classmates from EPPS. Previously together in Political Science and Sociology classes, we are now out in the real world as lawyers, business professionals, consultants and part of non-profits. It’s great to see how EPPS and UT Dallas have equipped us to become successful, well-rounded individuals who have been able to use what we learned in the classroom out in the real world.
Never stop learning. I challenge myself every year to learn a new skill and to read a number of books. Life is moving at an extremely fast pace nowadays and keeping up with what is going on while also taking time to learn more about areas of interest will allow you to stay up to date and advance in your career and life.
