PNM Program Head, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗵𝗻𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗹 selected for the 2021 Outstanding Scholar award by The Section on Personnel Administration and Labor Relations (SPALR) of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) National. This award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated an exemplary record of research, teaching and service in public human resource management.
PNM Associate Professor of Practice, Teodoro Benavides received the prestigious Paul Van Riper Award for Excellence and Service by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) National Annual Conference 2021. This award is to recognize Mr. Benavides for his exceptional contributions both as an academic and practitioner in the field of public administration over the past 10 years.
PNM second-year PhD student Thanh Hoang has been selected as the 2021 #ASPA Founder’s Fellow by the American Society for Public Administration. ASPA Founders’ Fellows is a prestigious and highly competitive program that recognizes outstanding students and new professionals in the field of public service and public administration. The 2021 Founders’ Fellows will receive a complimentary 2021 Annual Conference registration, a year-long mentorship with a seasoned practitioner or senior scholar, and professional development opportunities throughout their year as a Fellow. Hoang’s areas of research include public human resource management, nonprofit fundraising, and social media engagement.

This scholarship is awarded by the APSA’s Section on Professional and Organizational Development (SPOD) to help facilitate learning to advance students’ academic work and interests in finding solutions to the public organizational challenges.
PhD Candidate 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗼𝗺𝗮 selected for the ASPA 2021 Wallace O. Keene Conference Scholarship Award. This is a prestigious award by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA to students in the fields of public administration and public policy. The scholarship is intended to emphasize the impact of ethical leadership on the public’s trust in government. After her graduation, Shahrin will join the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs, the University of Minnesota as a Fellow for the President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship in Leadership and Management.
PhD Candidate 𝗭𝗲𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝗼𝗿 selected for the ASPA 2021 Wallace O. Keene Conference Scholarship Award. This is a prestigious award by the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) to students in the fields of public administration and public policy. Zeeshan also received the SICA David Gould Scholar Award by the ASPA Section on International and Comparative Administration (SICA). After his graduation, he will join the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy as a Postdoc Research Associate in summer.

Congratulations to Lexi Jenson, Master student of UT Dallas Public Affairs Program and her team on being the First Place Regional Winning Team at the Feb. 27 10:30 a.m. virtual site of the 2021 NASPAA-Batten Student Simulation Competition. In this year’s competition, there were nearly 400 students from 120 universities in 30 countries at 4 global sites. The four winning teams from each site are moving on to the global “All Star” round in which a panel of prominent judges will identify the global winner.
PNM Program Head Dr. Meghna Sabharwal and PhD Alumnus Dr. Romeo Abraham, in collaboration with Dr. Charlene M. L. Roach and Dr. Wayne Charles-Soverall at the University of the West Indies, have recently published a study that examines Public Service Motivation in the Caribbean context. Results indicate a significant negative relationship between senior leadership and turnover intentions, but a positive and significant relationship between PSM and turnover intentions. The study also highlights the need for studying leadership, motivation, and turnover by utilizing a cultural and value lens to examine and understand employee behaviors in public organizations outside of North America.

PNM PhD Student Al C. Johnson-Manning in collaboration with Lauren Slade – LGBTQ and HIV Programs and Services, Resource Center have recently published two articles to examine the impacts of the ongoing pandemic on transgender communities and senior housing challenges to LGBTQ older elder.
