How did you decide on your major?

I want to spend my life solving problems, and I’d love to do that through entrepreneurship. I knew I wanted an academic experience that would give me a solid foundation of skills and knowledge for pursuing an MBA in the future which is how I chose economics. I’ve enjoyed the flexibility the Economics major gives me, I was able to take upper level econ classes in my freshman year and get involved with more challenging topics early on which was exciting. It also gave me the flexibility to add a second major to my degree plan while still being able to graduate in 4 years, which has been really helpful.

My EPPS Success

One of my favorite things about UTD is how accessible our professors are. If you ever have questions, need help or just want to talk about research opportunities and career advice most of your teachers are only an email away. In my experience office hours, even if you only go a few times can ensure that you have a really great learning experience in every class. Professors are happy to help out and answer any questions you can have, and they’ve been a great source of support.

Plans for the Future

After graduation I hope to spend a couple years working in the startup space before going back to school to get my MBA. I’d like to focus my career on helping to build innovative solutions that are accessible to as many people as possible and making a positive difference in the world.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

Apart from getting to know your professors, get involved on campus! I joined Kesem my sophomore year, and our work focuses on helping kids whose parents have cancer. Working with the Kesem community and getting to know these kids and their families has been such incredibly fun and fulfilling work. Outside of your academic experience, make time to meet new friends and get involved in new communities, it goes a long way to making UTD feel like home. Also, seriously consider studying abroad!
