Researchers Develop Way To Provide Asthma Attack Early Warnings

Dr. Dohyeong Kim, Professor of Public Policy, Geospatial Information Sciences, and Social Data Analytics worked alongside a multidisciplinary team including physicians, environmental scientists, engineers, and artificial intelligence technicians to develop an algorithm with the potential to offer early medical alerts for onset asthma attacks or other respiratory issues. Kim’s team integrated AI into continuous monitoring of patients’ breathing conditions, enhancing the prospect of proactive healthcare interventions. According to his work he states “we developed a deep-learning algorithm to automatically detect problematic breathing. The algorithm accurately counts wheezing incidences and analyzes their timing.”
