EPPS has been a wonderful influence on my college experience! Dean Holmes, Dr. Boots, and all my professors have helped me at every turn. In the 2025 Summer and 2025 Winter semesters, I will be studying abroad with Dr. Boots, and this was made possible through the EPPS Global Engagement scholarship that I received through the EPPS Dean’s Office. I was also lucky enough to receive a scholarship from the Sumner’s Foundation that will pay for the last two years of my undergraduate degree —this opportunity was referred to me by Dr. Boots! For every project I’ve worked on or event I’ve hosted, the School of EPPS has always been happy to support me. The networking events held by Dean Holmes, Dr. Boots, Dr. Lanham, and other EPPS faculty have been a great way for students like me to connect with them, and I’m looking forward to continuing those conversations as EPPS liaison for Student Government.
After graduation, I plan to take a gap year to work in the legal field and prepare before attending law school. After I earn my JD, I am currently most interested in practicing criminal law (though that may change). My goal is to become the best attorney I can be, and once I’ve flourished in law, I would like to apply my talents civically and/or politically.
My biggest piece of advice for prospective EPPS students is to get as involved as you can as early as you can. So many of my opportunities have been made possible by building connections with my professors, faculty, and advisor, and having people in these positions who are willing to help me in my endeavors has been a massive influence on my successes. It’s also incredibly important to network with your peers and maintain a reputation that reflects how you wish to be perceived; your peers in college are your friends, but they’re also the people you’re going to work with throughout your collegiate career.
