Requirements
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Sophomore, junior, or senior status
- 24 hours of academic residency at UT Dallas
- Completion of core government requirements (GOVT 2305 and GOVT 2306)
- Interest in public policy, local government, and civic engagement
- Record of campus or community involvement
- While previous work or internship experience is preferred, it is not necessary to apply.

Application Materials
Applicants will be asked to submit the following:
- Resume: Please format your resume as a one-page document with a standard font size. It is recommended that you have your resume reviewed by the career services office prior to submission.
- Unofficial Transcript: Please attach a PDF copy of your unofficial academic transcript from UT Dallas.
- Personal Statement: Write an original personal statement (maximum of 500 words) that explains why you seek to be a Civic Leadership Fellow by addressing the following questions:
- Elaborate on your commitment to public service, policy, and/or politics, including any background, training, and/or skills that have prepared you to be a Civic Leadership Fellow.
- Explain how this program will advance your educational and professional goals.
- The Civic Leadership Fellowship Program is a cohort experience where students learn from each other in addition to their coursework and internships. What qualities, experiences, and perspectives would you bring to the cohort learning environment, and how do these align with the fellowship’s mission?
- Policy Paper: Write a policy memo with a 500-word limit that addresses the following:
- You are an analyst in local government in Dallas, TX. Your job is to identify an important policy problem facing the DFW Metroplex. Briefly describe the problem, explain why it is important and who is affected, and recommend a policy solution.
- The essay must include supporting evidence using MLA or APA formatted citations. Citations are not included in the 500-word limit for the policy paper. Please note that we will accept footnotes (in lieu of traditional in-text citations) for the policy paper. You may submit extra pages to accommodate your citations.
- Faculty Recommendation: Applicants will be asked to submit contact information for a UT Dallas faculty member as a recommender. Teaching assistants and graduate assistants are not accepted as recommenders.
