UT Dallas ICMA Chapter Holds Inaugural Meeting

The inaugural meeting for the new UT Dallas ICMA chapter took place on Sept. 19, 2019 with a strong turnout of 24 students. The student chapter of the International City/County Manager Association was created to bring together EPPS students interested in local government management.

Meeting monthly, the chapter seeks to introduce members to local city managers or other chief executives with diverse skill sets as guest speakers to educate members on contemporary issues and how their unique backgrounds help address these issues. This also provides the members with networking opportunities with executives in local government.

At the first meeting for the fall semester, the first guest speaker was former Dallas City Manager Teodoro “Ted” Benavides. The topic of discussion was council-manger relations and the legal side of city management. With more than 46 years of experience working in government, Professor Benavides brought invaluable experience and insight to the discussion with his humorous and engaging presentation style.
