Brian Berry Receives Prestigious Award
October 11, 2019Dr. Brian Berry, Lloyd Viel Berkner Regental Professor and member of the National Academy of Sciences, has been selected to receive the 2020 Stan Brunn Award for Creativity in Geography. This annual award from the American Association of Geographers (AAG) recognizes an individual geographer or team that has demonstrated originality, creativity, and significant intellectual breakthroughs in geography.
The AAG announced that it is recognizing Dr. Berry as one of the most influential figures in the disciplines of geography, urban studies, and regional planning. His early urban and regional research helped spark the scientific revolution that occurred in geography and urban research in the early 1960s, making him the world’s most frequently cited geographer for more than 25 years.
AAG is also recognizing Dr. Berry’s service to the discipline, including as AAG President (1978-1979), and as dean of the UT Dallas School of Social Sciences, now known as the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (2005–2010).
Dr. Berry is the author of more than 500 books, articles, planning reports and other professional publications and he has been honored many times.
