The first-ever EPPS Math and Coding Camp wrapped up successfully a couple of weeks ago, marking a promising start for this new initiative. The camp owes its success to the dedication of both the instructors and the graduate students who participated, making it an impactful experience.
The EPPS Math and Coding Camp was designed to offer first-year EPPS graduate students a week of intensive training in fundamental mathematics and basic programming. The camp’s goal was to prepare and inspire students with practical math and data analysis techniques, setting the stage for their upcoming graduate research methods courses.
The week was carefully structured, with two days dedicated to mathematical foundations (August 8-9) and three days focused on coding and data analysis (August 12-14). Throughout the camp, students received comprehensive notes and lectures, participated in group exercises to reinforce core concepts, and engaged in a final group project, which provided an opportunity for feedback and further learning.
This experience not only benefited the graduate students but also offered valuable insights to the instructors, helping them refine their planning and teaching strategies. The team is excited to host the camp annually, with the goal of making it even better in the years to come. Stay tuned for future updates!
It was an intensive, enjoyable, and rewarding week of collaboration, led by Dr. Karl Ho, during which our combined efforts contributed to the success of the inaugural EPPS Math and Coding Camp. I was particularly impressed by the diversity of research experience within the graduate student cohort. I hope this camp continues for future cohorts, fostering both academic growth and the strong sense of community that defines EPPS.
