Dr. Denise Paquette Boots, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education and Professor of Public Policy at the School of EPPS, along with Dr. Stacy Mallicoat, Director of Honors and Professor of Criminal Justice at California State University-Fullerton, were recently invited to present their research on “Gendered Pathways to Victimization & Offending: Trauma over the Lifecourse” at the Annual Magistrates Conference of the Local Court of New South Wales.
Their presentation focused on trauma and the gendered differences in outcomes for justice-involved youth, sharing key findings from their recent research. This event marked the conclusion of a five-week study abroad program led by Dr. Boots and Dr. Mallicoat, which included 25 students from UT Dallas and Cal State-Fullerton. The program emphasized comparative studies of gender-based violence and provided the students with opportunities to engage with the culture and history of Indigenous and First Nation peoples in Australia. During the program, the students also visited the local magistrates’ court as guests of Deputy Chief Magistrate Sharon Freund.
Following their presentation, Dr. Boots and Dr. Mallicoat received a letter of thanks from the Director of Education and Research, acknowledging their valuable contribution to the conference.
