Dual Degree in Data Science
Intrigued by the possibility to study abroad? Excited about the possibility to obtain two Masters degrees for the price of one? Learn more about the UTD-NCHU Dual Degree program in Data Science program below.
We started building this program in 2022. EPPS Dean Jennifer Holmes raised the idea and Senior Associate Dean Dr. Dohyeong Kim also supported starting this program to allow UTD and NCHU students to study in each institution and earn credit hours to complete the Master’s program in Data Science. The program features:
- Studying 18 hours each in residence of NCHU and UTD
- Upon completion the candidate will earn two masters degrees, one in each institution
- Studying aboard in Taichung, Taiwan’s central city and cultural capital famous for national museums and nature areas.
- Exposure to both US and Taiwan data science and AI industries and vibrant job markets
The UTD-NCHU Dual Degree program in Data Science allows students from US and Taiwan to learn latest methods and technologies in two countries both standing among the top in data science. Taiwan is well renowned for its semiconductor, artificial intelligence and high tech industries. Students in this program will be exposed to scientists, engineers and data science experts in both countries and be endowed the research and job opportunities in both markets.
Taiwan is one of the best developed democracies in Asia. It is well renowned for its beautiful mountains and coastlines and its diversity in cultures and international communities. Students will be able to learn Chinese in the international city of Taichung, which features the best national museums and highly accommodating environment.

UT Dallas
Dean Holmes and Dr. Kim have been instrumental in building this program from the start in 2022. The Dean visited NCHU in 2019 and signed an MOU embarking on a series of partnership projects starting from NCHU’s College of Law and Politics.

National Chung Hsing University
The dual degree program is a collaboration with the College of Science and Big Data Center under the leadership of Dean Jerry Yin-Tzer Shih in NCHU. Dr. Shih is currently NCHU’s Vice President.
How to apply?
Requirements for admission
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 (dual degree candidates must maintain a 3.5 in the program to be considered to continue on to Taiwan)
- Proof of English Proficiency (TOEFL or other documentation)
- An undergraduate degree in political science, economics, or other relevant disciplines
- GRE: Verbal score of 156 and quantitative score of 146
- Follow University deadlines
Application process
- Complete the application on the UTD graduate admission website.
- Have official transcripts from all universities you have attended sent from those universities to the Office of Admissions
- Complete a short essay with an explanation of why you feel you would be successful in the program
- Request three recommendation letters from professors, employers or those people who would be knowledgeable about your abilities
- Send your GRE and TOEFL scores (If applicable)
- Students being considered for the dual degree will be contacted for a short telephone or Skype interview
