Tech Policy

We live in a world where technological shocks become a usual occurrence, with rapid automation, developments in AI and social media impacting business models, labor markets, communication, mental health and politics. The Technology Analytics and Policy Program melds key facets of economics, public policy, data analysis to provide students with a holistic and nuanced perspective on how technology influences society and business, and vice versa. The program is a dynamic and interdisciplinary course of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between emerging technologies and society, data analytics, and policy evaluation.

The program gives students unique opportunities to engage in real-world evaluation of research ideas for patentability and commercialization in collaboration with UTD Office of Innovation. The students would learn economic principles behind technology analytics and best practices of data analysis for causal inference, analysis of strategic interactions and data-driven analysis of technology impact. The students start with the foundational principles of economics of technology and policy, data analytics, and the implications of these in the contemporary world. The program delves deeper into advanced topics such as artificial intelligence, automation, machine learning, predictive analytics, technology law, policy-making and implementation, cybersecurity policies, and technology leadership.

Marketable Skills

  1. Technology Analytics: Students learn how to evaluate real-world ideas for patentability and commercial potential, their implications for attractiveness to Venture Investors and IPO.
  2. Policy Analysis and Development: Students learn how to analyze and formulate technology policies, enabling them to navigate the complex interplay between technology and societal needs.

  8. Communication Skills: The program places a significant emphasis on communication, training students to present technical information and policy recommendations to diverse audiences.
