Public Health

Modern health challenges include the increase in epidemics and pandemics, access and quality gaps in healthcare services for vulnerable populations, as well as need of effective and sustainable health policymaking. Global health policy today requires solutions that link together many academic disciplines. Our school’s interdisciplinary focus celebrates innovative approaches to the innumerable public health challenges afflicting people around the globe. The efforts of the EPPS faculty and students can foster policy analysis, research, and core skills of practitioners that can make a difference in the quality of life of others and help inform health practices in the United States and abroad.

The new Bachelor of Arts in Public Health (BAPH) program prepares students for diverse roles within the health care system, including positions in community-based private, public, and nonprofit organizations. Students will also be equipped to work with local, state, and global health departments, such as the U.S. Public Health Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The BAPH program is an excellent fit for those pursuing clinical careers in medicine, nursing, medical social work, and mental health, as it provides a deeper understanding of the social and community dimensions of health and illness.

Public health practitioners trained in this program will monitor and aim to control the spread of infectious diseases, behavioral risks, and environmental hazards that impact health, while also promoting healthier behaviors. The curriculum offers foundational training in social epidemiology, statistics, research methods, and program development and evaluation.
