Graduate students from the Criminology and Criminal Justice Program at EPPS made a strong impact at the Southwestern Association of Criminal Justice (SWACJ) annual conference in Fort Worth, Texas. The SWACJ, a regional affiliate of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, hosted the Graduate Student Paper Award competition, where EPPS students’ outstanding research earned them top honors.

A collaborative effort by students Sunmin Hong, Robert Geibler, and Wenyi Wang earned first place for their research paper titled “Multilevel Analysis of Police Decision Making: The Impact of Various Factors on Suspect Release in South Korea Across Different Periods of the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Samantha Manuel was awarded second place for her literature review titled, “Adverse Childhood Experiences, Intergenerational Trauma, and Resilience: A Literature Review of Risk and Protective Factor Transmission.

With both first and second place secured, EPPS Criminology students nearly swept the entire awards competition, showcasing the depth and excellence of their research in the field of criminal justice. Congratulations to Sunmin, Robert, Wenyi, and Samantha for their outstanding accomplishments and continued contributions to the field!
