Huayu Scholarships

The BEST Huayu Scholarship was created by the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences is in partnership with the Taiwan Ministry of Education to award Huayu scholarships for students interested in learning Mandarin (Huayu 華語) in Taiwan. Recipients of the scholarship will be supported with stipends to study at the National Chung Hsing University (Taichung) for two months. The intensive but activity-oriented program provides the best opportunity for US students to learn to speak and understand the Chinese language in an immersive environment.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) established the MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship to enhance exchanges between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and countries designated by the MOE by encouraging foreign students to study Mandarin in Taiwan and to deepen their understanding of Taiwan’s cultural and social developments. 

• A monthly stipend of NT$25,000. 
• Duration options: two months (summer courses), three months, six months, nine months, or twelve months. 
• Application period: February 1 to March 31 (subject to change).  

Scholarships for Degree

The MOFA Taiwan Scholarship encourages outstanding students to pursue academic degrees in Taiwan and to deepen their understanding of Taiwan’s academic environment.

• Financial Assistance Scholarship recipients will be given a monthly stipend of NT$25,000 for the LEP and NT$30,000 for degree programs.
• Recipients are responsible for all expenses during their stay in Taiwan.
• Provide recipients with one-way, economy-class plane tickets for direct flights to and from Taiwan. 
• Application period: February 1 to March 31 (subject to change) 

The MOE Taiwan Scholarship persistently motivates exceptional students to pursue academic degrees in Taiwan, fostering a deeper comprehension of the country’s academic landscape.

• Waiver of tuition and certain fees.
• A monthly stipend of NT$15,000 for undergraduate program students, and NT$20,000 for postgraduate students.
• Duration:
  • Undergraduate program: four years maximum.
  • Master’s program: two years maximum.
  • Doctoral program: four years maximum. 
  • Maximum duration for any combination of programs under this scholarship: five years. 
• Application period: February 1 to March 31 (subject to change). 

Work in Taiwan Teaching English

TFETP was launched by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to recruit foreign English teachers and teaching assistants to create more opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools nationwide. 

• Foreign Teacher Salary (Depending on highest education attainment and teaching seniority)
  • Bachelor’s degree: NT$ 67,840~88,800. 
  • Master’s degree: NT$ 75,680~98,780. 
  • Doctoral degree: NT$ 78,990~104,020. 
• Foreign Teaching Assistant Salary earn NT$50,000.
