Welcome to the Taiwan Studies Initiative at the University of Texas at Dallas!
Where scholarly inquiry meets innovation.

We aim to build an academic hub for Taiwan Studies with a dedication to advance research and policy analysis in critical areas including high technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainability.

Through rigorous scholarship, language training, and student exchange programs- we aim to explore Taiwan’s dynamic role in the world and provide a welcoming platform for academic and cultural exchange.

What We Do:

Convening a network: Establishing a professional and scholarly national platform for Taiwan Studies, promoting research and dialogue. 
Advancing Scholarship: Advancing research and policy analysis in Taiwan studies, focusing on its political, social, and economic dimensions.
Preparing New Generations: Equipping new researchers with the tools to explore emerging issues in high technology, AI, and sustainability within the context of Taiwan. 
Language Training and Exchange Opportunities: Offering comprehensive language training and student exchange programs to deepen understanding and foster academic and cultural exchanges.

Taiwan Studies Initiative Advisory Board

Dr. Charles Ku, Chair of Taiwan Studies Initiative Advisory Board

Dr. Charles Ku is the Honorary President of the Greater Dallas Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce.  He is currently a retired dentist since 2023. Over the years, Dr. Ku was recognized by his peers as a leader in his field. He was appointed by Governor Clements to the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners, and served as chair in 1990, was appointed by Governor George W Bush to the Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council, and was appointed by George H. W. Bush to the Federal Commission on Apprenticeship. Dr. Ku also  served on the Baylor Oral Health Foundation Board. He currently serves on the Baylor University Medical Center Board of Trustees and Dallas Baptist University Board of Trustees.
