UT Dallas GISSO to Host 10th Annual GIS Day

The UT Dallas GIS Student Organization and the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences will celebrate the 10th annual GIS Day on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 and showcase the Geospatial Information Sciences (GIS) program throughout a day-long series of events on campus.

The day, which is celebrated by GIS scholars and practitioners worldwide, was inaugurated in 1999. Event organizers across the globe consider GIS Day an ideal time to demonstrate the benefits of GIS, promote new opportunities in the field, and share information about GIS with the general public.

The UT Dallas events start at noon in the Davidson Auditorium (JSOM 1.118) and will feature a panel of experts from Google, Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, The Dallas Morning News and UT System professors and researchers. Events in the Axxess Atrium (ECSW 1.100) start at 2:10 p.m. and include a student poster competition showcasing research by UT Dallas students and a reception with appetizers and refreshments.

The GIS Student Organization (GISSO) at UT Dallas is dedicated to the promotion of scientific knowledge in the various disciplines of geography and remote sensing. GISSO organizes GIS Day with the help of volunteers all over the UT Dallas campus.

UT Dallas has a many opportunities available to students interested in GIS. EPPS offers a minor, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and PhD in GIS as well as graduate certification in three GIS-related fields.
